Dr Mohammed Obaidullah has held the position of 2nd Yayasan Tun Ismail Mohamed Berdafter (YTI) Chair Professor of Islamic Finance with the Islamic Sciences University Malaysia.
He has served various institutions of repute including the Islamic Economics Institute of the King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia, the International Islamic University Malaysia and the Xavier Institute of Management, India, creating and sharing knowledge in the field of Islamic economics and finance. He introduced world’s first online training course in Islamic banking and finance while serving the Xavier Institute of Management and founded IBF Net: Islamic Business and Finance Network as world’s first online community in the field in 1998-99. IBF Net’s flagship project, the International Institute of Islamic Business and Finance (IIIBF), currently offers world’s only accredited (by FAA, Malaysia) professional Certification Program in Zakat Management.
He is also a founder member of the Jakarta-based World Zakat Forum. Currently, as Lead Research Economist, he represents the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank Group in the International Working Groups led by Bank Indonesia to develop global standards and principles for supervision and management of the zakat and awqaf sectors. He has widely published in the field and has over 1600 citations till date. Among others, he is the author of the popular book “Islamic Financial Services” that has over 400 citations till date.
He is a frequent speaker at international conferences and workshops on Islamic finance in general and Islamic social finance in particular. He was educated in India and holds a PhD and an MBA degree with specialization in Finance and certifications in microfinance, blockchain tech, digital money, fintech and related areas.
