Prisons in India are extremely overcrowded, approximately housing 2 to 3 times their capacity of inmates. As per National Crime Records Bureau, 70 percent of the prisoners are undertrials awaiting freedom only for want of small amounts of money. While actively working in 10 jails of Maharashtra and having released over 1200 prisoners, we understand that poverty and lack of awareness are the root evils for people languishing in prisons for long periods.

As the family's sole breadwinner lands up behind the bars, the poor family is left to look at every possible help only for survival. Gathering money for the bail is put at a secondary level, as basic survival is not met. This leads to the person ending up in jail for years, more often than not, longer enough than the actual sentence.

The Prison Statistics of India and the National Crime Records Bureau reports that the percentage of Muslims in the prisons is higher than their corresponding population in the country. This leads to a sizeable number being stuck in jails almost perpetually without any help.

Global Care Foundation is a ray of hope for such people that helps dispel the darkness of their lives by helping the accused and his/her family to get released on bail and feel a sense of freedom. After their release, the prisoner is also provided rehabilitation based on his/her needs and requirements. The rehabilitation is like job assistance, educational support, skill development, setting up of small-scale business, etc.
