My name is Shiyam Fatima & I am a first-year student at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Bhopal.

I was fortunate enough to secure admission on merit, and I am determined to make the most of this incredible opportunity.

However, the pandemic has taken a toll on my family's financial situation. My father runs a scrap trading business, which was doing well before the pandemic hit.

Unfortunately, the lockdowns and economic downturn have caused a significant drop in his business, making it challenging for him to manage our family's finances.

I come from a humble background, and my family has always put education as a top priority. But with my two younger siblings to support and my college fees to pay, our financial situation has become quite difficult.

I do not want to give up on my dreams of higher education, but I cannot do it alone.
