Zakat Council consists of members who are experts in any one of the fields: Islamic Finance, Zakat Management, Law, Marketing, Media, Public relations, Strategic planning, Health, Nutrition, Social services, Education, Sports, Youth, Women empowerment, Environment, etc. The Council makes sure that the day-to-day management is carried out effectively. It ensures that the organization is run well and operates responsibly, so that the charity would continue to be effective, credible and sustainable.


Zaeem Shaukat Mirza

Global Business Strategist and an avid Marketing Technologist

Zaeem is an accomplished Global Business Strategist and an avid Marketing Technologist. Having worked with category-leading companies including iProspect, AmoebaCom, Qatar Airways, and Google, Zaeem brings scale and efficiency to global business and marketing operations.

Under his leadership, he has managed multiple teams and portfolios across 20+ languages, 80+ countries, and 150+ cities. He has managed marketing budgets exceeding $100m and driven multibillion-dollar revenue year on year. On the social front, Zaeem consults multiple organizations towards management, fund-raising, and cause- and non-profit marketing.

He is a Marketing Academy graduate from INSEAD, Singapore and aspires to accomplish a PhD in Marketing Technology. He is a Mumbai University ranker, a graduate in mass communication from the St. Xavier’s College (Mumbai, IN), and secured his post-graduation in advertising management from MICA (IN). Armed with his credentials and experience, he independently mentors, invests, and harbours a desire to create entrepreneurs out of passionate professionals who have great technology, product, or social impact ideas.

His passion to continually learn allows him to facilitate media and business school programs, conduct corporate workshops, and speak at notable industry conferences on topics ranging from e-commerce strategy, online brand management, non-profit marketing, to digital transformation, and marketing at scale.

Activities related to Islamic Finance and Banking

  • • Interacted with Finance Ministers, Governors of RBI, Deputy Governors RBI and Deputy Chairman Planning Commission to introduce the concept of Islamic banking in India.
  • • Prepared along with experts a document for Banking Regulations (amendment) Bill to be introduced in Parliament as a private members bill.
  • • Prepared a document along with experts for Interest free windows in conventional Banks and submitted to RBI and Finance Ministry.
  • • Interacted with High Level committee on Financial Sector Reforms of Planning Commission of India headed by Dr Raghuram Rajan which recommended introduction interest free banking.
  • • Represented ICIF and appeared in Kerala High Court against the petition of Dr Swamy and dismissed the case paving the way for first NBFC on Shariah principles in the country.
  • • Appeared before the Panel of RBI on Medium term Path on Financial Inclusion and pleaded successfully for introduction of Interest free window in commercial banks.
  • • Pleaded the case for introduction of Islamic Insurance -Takaful before the Select Committee on Insurance of parliament.
  • • Facilitated Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Forum to file PIL in High Court in March 2018 demanding to Open an Interest free windows in all J&K branches across India.

Miss. Nida Khan

Doctoral Researcher on Blockchain and Data Analytics, Luxembourg, France

Nida Khan is the developer of education smartphone apps that were pioneers in the Islamic finance industry. She is presently working as a Doctoral researcher in the Services and Data Management Research Group in Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust in the University of Luxembourg.

Her research work entails blockchain-enabled traceability in finance, and she has worked on case studies for an upcoming French Luxembourgish Islamic fintech startup, Conexcap. She is the country correspondent for IFN in Luxembourg.

She is also the CTO-Advisor for OneAgrix, a Singapore-based blockchain startup in the Halal economy, where she will take over as the CTO from July 2020. She is the recipient of the prestigious FNR grant, given by the government of Luxembourg for innovative industrial projects.

She is also contributing as a team member of Masdin, an associate team between the University of Luxembourg and Inria, France for management of software-defined infrastructure. She is credited with the development of a new consensus mechanism, FAST, for high performance blockchains and a blockchain-based dapp for Zakaat in Ethereum.

She has dealt with blockchain-based micropayments, blockchain governance, privacy-preserving blockchains and usage of differential privacy in blockchains. Her work appears in diverse publications and she speaks regularly on emerging technologies.

Khalid Saifullah

Founder of the Missing Voter App and CEO RayLabs, Hyderabad, Telangana. Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

38-year-old software wiz Khalid Saifullah founder of the Missing Voter App and CEO of the Hyderabad based RayLabs undertook a study to find out how many Muslim and Dalit voters existed or were missing from the voting list.

He found that 15 per cent of all voters and 25 per cent Muslims are not present on the electoral list. Therefore approximately 12.7 crores of all voters and three crore Muslims were not able to vote in the May 2019 Lok Sabha elections. His study also found that 4 crore Dalits out of some 20 crore eligible Dalit voters were missing from the rolls.
